What a fun concept idea for seating by Camilla Hounsell Halvorsen from Norway called Drops. Using inner tubes covered with ribbons of fabric, these poufs look inviting for both adults and children. Her original concept was a chair that could be adjusted in position. I love the fabric and colorways.

Backyard Playgrounds
We were lucky to find a home with a backyard playset that little Ezra could enjoy. However, after we bought our house and made a closer inspection, we realized what we had was an eyesore of a swing set and clubhouse that needed some serious refinishing and replacing of parts. I also started to worry that perhaps the wood used was seething with toxic chemicals. I’ve been on the look-out for cool modern playsets (that are hopefully reasonable in price) and provide something a little more sculptural to look at. I’ve read plenty of blog postings with one-off ideas that seems really cool and interesting, but they don’t lead me anywhere since most seem like concepts only.

I spotted the Weevos system by Landscape Structures that have an interesting design and offer functional play, though probably too commercial for a backyard setting. What are your solutions for backyard playsets?
Kid Made Modern
We received a great family gift this holiday, the Kid Made Modern craft book by Todd Oldham. This book features 52 projects inspired by mid-century designers/artists. Although our little Ezra is a tad young for these, I know it will be a great resource to us in the future. A delightful treat for both parent and child.
Kid-Friendly Outdoor Fireplace
What a beautiful outdoor fireplace, designed for children at a kindergarten in Norway. The structure is so inviting I’m ready to go for a visit and do my own story time by the fire. I love their popular saying “‘there is no such thing as bad weather only bad clothing,’ and all seasons are equally attractive to the Norwegian children that enjoy outside activities all year round.”
giggle at paper culture
We are very happy to be a featured designer at paperculture.com. The giggle card collection includes holiday cards, holiday party invitations, baby shower invitations, baby announcements and kids party invitations. Their cards are beautifully printed on recycled paper with soft rounded corners, so lovely. It’s a great collection that we’re proud to have. Check it out!
NYTimes Style Magazine Feature
I keep revisiting the NYTimes Magazine interactive style feature over at nytimes.com. It’s packed with such interesting features many of which seem to have family theme.
Tim Burton at the MoMA
For those of you that are fans of Tim Burton, his new exhibit at the MoMA in NYC is opening November 22, just in time for the holidays.
Bird Book
If you haven’t seen Andrew Zuckerman’s bird photographs, check them out. His new bird book was just released, but just browsing the images on his website is pretty spectacular.

Hoot, Hoot
I was very excited to see the new dwell rugs on the giggle site today. How adorable is this tree rug with owl and bird? Great new accessories too!
From the land of the Norse
There’s something about a handmade doll that encourages feelings of delight, and these little Vikings by Sandra Monat certainly have that quality. I first spotted her melamine plates over at notcot, which are adorable, but I’m really loving her dolls. These characters mix of materials, colors and facial expressions are just irresistible.
